Accompanist:
You will need to organise an accompanist for some sections. A
rehearsal with your accompanist is essential. The studio recommends: Lisa Biraldi (0412 620
117); Elise Burns (4272 3327); Tim Verdon (0423 515 590). Your accompanist will
advise you of the applicable fees. If you are unsure of which accompanists to
use, please call the studio (4272 8738). Alternatively you can email Nella
directly ...(nella@voiceworx.com.au).
Backing
Tracks:
CD's or tapes must be clearly
labeled with your competitor and section number and the song title. Tapes must
be cued ready to go on the day. No backing vocals are allowed. All backing CD's
can be purchased through VoiceworX. Time limits vary so refer to program or
syllabus.
Microphone:
Microphones can only be used for
'Pop' sections, 'Jazz/Blues' and is optional for 'Musical Theatre' and 'Songs
from G rated Film'. Microphones are not allowed for any other sections.
Your teacher will advise you whether or not to use a microphone for the relevant
sections. Start
practicing with a microphone during your lesson and at home (Use a brush if
necessary!)
Music:
2 copies of your sheet music will be
required: 1 for your accompanist (must be of good quality) and 1 for the
Adjudicator. (Not required for pop sections.)
Clothes:
You will be judged, not only on
your performance, but on your presentation. Musical theatre sections must be
performed in costume (research your characters
clothing.) For all other sections, dress should not be casual
and must reflect your age. Wear your VoiceworX jacket before and after your
performance and when receiving any awards!
Venue:
Know where you are going (check
your program carefully) and always arrive early. For Wollongong Eisteddfod, the
senior vocal and sacred solo sections take place at the Wesley Uniting Church.
All other vocal sections take place at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre in
the 'Bruce Gordon Theatre'. Drama and instrumental sections ... refer to
program.
Preparation:
If you don't know your words by
now, get cracking. You should practice performing your songs to family, friends
the dog or mirror and as often as possible. It is recommended that you attend a
minimum of two 'performance classes' in the lead up to the Eisteddfod, to enable Nella to give you feedback on your performance.
It will also help conquer your nerves.
Remember you
are representing the studio so...
-
Support
each other and your fellow competitors.
-
Use your
best manners at all times with eisteddfod staff and officials.
-
Thank your
accompanist.
-
Enjoy
yourself and perform your pieces well.
-
Keep a
copy of this in your music folder.
-
Wear your
VoiceworX jackets at all Eisteddfods and performances.
